Ours is the same Berber hospitality that drew hedonist intellectuals to Morocco in days past. A time which aligned the stars with long, party-filled nights. Our contemporary guests — whom we call Freedom Seekers — experience the same escapism that was such a magnetic force for those before them.
Karim Irrgang
Managing Director - Son of German and Algerian parents, Karim grew up in the Black Forest of Germany enjoying family holidays in properties around the world, before heading to the city of Munich. It was in a bookshop here that he found 100 Best Hotels - a book that would guide his career. His mind was set on getting a position at one of these hotels and it was Banyan Tree that gave him his entry into hospitality.
On joining Banyan Tree as a trainee in Thailand, Karim travelled to the Seychelles, Morocco, Australia, and the UAE where he developed over the next seven years with them to position of hotel manager. His career has since taken him to Cheval Blanc Randheli in the Maldives and D-Hotel Maris in Turkey, before returning to Banyan Tree.
His desire to return to Morocco and his wife’s home of Marrakech brought him to El Fenn, where he was General Manager from July 2021 and oversaw the successful expansion of the popular riad property.
His desire to return closer to home with his combined cultural and luxury experience has now brought him to join IZZA, defining this refined ‘house of friends’ project that echoes back to his childhood and sense-of-place values. “Bringing IZZA to life along with an incredibly talented and passionate team in such a colourful and vibrant city is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
